Tableau Interview Questions Set 9

1.What is a visualization of Data?
Data visualization is the process of viewing the large amount of information or data,  in a more precise, advanced, ordered and direct way. It is an optical representation of information in the form of charts and graphs, when you can’t specify it textually. By using different data visualization tools and software, you can show correlations, patterns and trends. It is one such software used by corporations and businesses.
2.What is the difference between parameters and filters in Tableau?
The actual difference lies in the app. The parameter allows the users to insert the data, that can be either  float, string, integers, which are used in calculations. Whereas the filter gets only those values which are chosen by the users from the list and these can’t be used in performing the calculations. In parameters,  the user has the authority to change dimensions and measures, but this feature is not approved in filters.
3.What are different Tableau files?
The different Tableau files are:
  • Files of data extraction: Extraction files are a copy of an entire data source or a subset.
  • Bookmarks: It is an easy way to share your work quickly, as it is a single worksheet.
  • Workbooks: It holds more than one dashboard and worksheets.
  • Files of Data connection: It contains a different connection information, it is nothing but a small XML file.
  • Packaged Workbooks:It contains supporting background images and local file data along with the workbook.
4.What is page shelf?
Page shelf is the powerful tool of Tableau, which Is used to control the printed results and display of the output.
5.How we can do testing in Tableau?
With the help of the load testing solution of tableau server  known as TabJolt, we can do performance testing. The TabJolt is used to place a heavy workload on the  Tableau server in order to give it a Jolt and to learn how the server breaks or bends under load.
6.What is Tableau public?
The Tableau Public allows anyone to publish interactive information to the web, as it is a free service. Anyone on the web can interact it, can create own visualizations of it and can download it. There is no need of programming skills.
7.What is the difference between Tableau server and Tableau Desktop?
Tableau desktop allows workbook creation,  and data visualization, whereas the Tableau server is used to circulate these  workbooks and reports to the right people. Users have the access to update and edit the dashboards and the workbooks, online; but can’t create the new ones,  but the editing options are limited when compared to desktops. Tableau public is a free tool which consists of server and desktop components accessible to anyone.
8.What is data blending? When do you use it?
Data blending is the process of bringing data from the multiple data roots into one view of Tableau, without any special coding.
In Tableau, the data blending can be used in the following cases:
  • It links data using fields between two data sources which are not in the view.
  • Use secondary dimensions in the view.
  • Filter on secondary dimension fields.
9.Where we can use global filters?
Global filters can be used in dashboards, stories and sheets.
10.How do you add custom color to Tableau?
There are three types of color palettes which is offered by Tableau: sequential, diverging and categorical. By modifying the file of preferences.tps, which comes with Tableau desktop, you can make your own custom color palette. In my Tableau Repository, the Preferences.tps  file is located. The preferences file is nothing but a basic XML file, that can be opened in atext editor to make changes. There is a color picker option in  Tableau 9.0.
